Children Amazed at Sunflowers
“Look at the hue on those Sunflowers Miguel, it’s such a golden hue at this time of the day. Sunflowers are just so amazing in my opinion, in fact when trying to help children to realize the wonder and power of seeds. Just look at those Sunflowers over there, they must be over 8ft tall.”
“Blimey Alexandra, you must have been reading my mind. I was just thinking about how gold [the precious metal] is hitting all-time highs. Jerome Powell — the Fed Chair — once called Bitcoin ‘digital gold.’ He’s not the only one, of course. Five thousand years versus fifteen years… not bad going really,” replied Miguel.
Brave New Worlds
“Not bad going at all, however and to quote the Carpenters; [We’ve Only Just Begun]. I often wonder how much Satoshi imagined that Bitcoin could ascend and even survive. Having read many books in my life, nothing really matches the story of Bitcoin, so far. Speaking of books, I read Aldous Huxley’s [Brave New World] when I was 8 years old and so much that was happening pre Satoshi and Bitcoin seemed to be going down that path. And here we are, in this wonderful garden on this incredible research farm in one of the most fertile valley’s in the USA, well in the World in fact. It is really important that we bring together Bitcoin and Seeds because they are just so unique and related in mysteriously unique ways.” Alexandra was now quite excitedly animated.
Miguel chuckled. “It’s always lovely to witness your enthusiasm, Alexandra. You’ve lifted me out of the doldrums many times. Sometimes I try to think like extra-terrestrial aliens visiting Earth for the first time. Let’s say they land, we realize they’re benign — so we don’t blow them to smithereens. They’re wise, honest, and we ask them what they think about our financial systems, especially our massive and ever-growing debt.” Quipped Miguel.
Aliens, Debt, and Deflation
He continued “So we asked the aliens via a theoretical exercise. Let's say we have 1 Million US Dollars to invest. We decide this will be in either Fiat, Bitcoin or Gold but physical Gold only which will be stored for us. They pretty much ruled out Fiat as a worthy investment immediately and also commented that as most stablecoins are pegged to the US Dollar they are also a depreciating asset. Being well informed, the Aliens also noted Jeff Booth’s continuing comments on natural financial constructs which will depreciate-deflate, over time. Of course, deflation is incredibly scary to our current bumbling [stalwarts] of our financial systems.”
Alexandra then chimed in “Yes Miguel because if prices are falling, people may delay spending — why buy today if it’ll be cheaper tomorrow? Economists fear this self-reinforcing loop could tip economies into long recessions (they often cite the Great Depression of the 1930s as an example). The fear of deflation is often a fear of system fragility in debt-based economies — where constant growth is required to service ever-expanding credit. In any case, I interrupted your flow here, Miguel; please carry on as I am rivetted to what your Aliens expanding opinions are.”
Gold’s Heavy Weight
“Your input is always welcome, Alexandra. So next we moved on to Gold, after all it has been used in our financial/value-exchange systems for over 5,000 years now. The Aliens pointed out that Gold is fairly exclusionary and hard to use, as they pointed out, it is hard to use gold coins to buy a coffee at Starbucks. As I mentioned, they were fairly well-informed of the behaviors and opinions of us Earthlings.” Alexandra and Miguel both chuckled at this point.
“So why exclusionary?'“ we asked the Aliens - ‘Globally, participation is in overall financial markets is likely well under 30%, with many emerging economies still outside the mainstream financial systems themselves’”, Miguel continued, “To listen to the talking heads extolling Gold for everything and everyone, it would be easy to assume that Gold is in widescale use across all nations and peoples, this is just not the case. They [the Aliens] also pointed out that holding and storing gold is risky and literally weighty, very weighty. So then, what an alternative to owning and storing gold itself? The London Bullion Market (LBMA) and COMEX futures allow enormous amounts of “paper gold” to be traded — contracts representing claims on gold, not actual bars. It’s interesting to also reflect that earlier this year, talk of auditing Fort Knox in the USA were circulating, silence seems to have fallen around that proposal.” Miguel wryly noted.
“Yes Miguel and that is not really surprising to me and let’s not forget the immense amount of suffering and destruction which applies to the mining of gold. This is getting worse over time as it is getting harder to keep up the percentage yields from mining operations yet the amount of gold which ends up in circulation in not declining much. So despite lower grades, 2024 saw record-high gold supply (around 3,661 tonnes mined globally), signaling that technological improvements, exploration and land mass destruction are offsetting the grade decline. We are crushing more none-gold materials to maintain gold supplies, not to mention the extreme human suffering too. It is so wonderful that we are so involved in beneficial land-work and seeds begat soils and soils begat seeds.” Alexandra gleefully expounded.
“That almost sounds biblical Alexandra and you hit on another point that the Aliens made. As time passes it gets more difficult to find and mine gold so they expect the incidence and use of [paper gold] to proliferate. Imagine if we tried to finance ourselves on the promised future yields of food and seeds; oh hang on though, someone beat us to the punch. That is exactly how futures markets function in traditional financial worlds.”
Seeds, Traditions, and Landraces
“Oh yes Miguel and we have largely forgotten the true meaning of [traditional] when seeds were passed down across generations as ever improving landraces as our sister organization pointed out in this article.
“Sorry I am taking us off at a tangent again” mused Alexandra “what was the overall opinion of the Aliens on Gold to invest our mythical $1,000,000.00 into, Miguel?”
“Alexandra; no problem at all, your points on traditional seed saving are really key points to extoll and persist. So the Aliens felt that Gold has its place, however they also felt that gold was too easily prone to human manipulations and distortions and also far too difficult for any sort of large scale use as a medium of exchange even the store of value part is at least questionable because of these human manipulations and distortions. For instance only about 10.8% of Americans own any gold (physical or otherwise) and let’s not forget that the US population is fairly affluent in comparison to other parts of our Earth. So next, our Alien friends got into the consideration of Bitcoin for our 1 Million US Dollars to invest in.”
Bitcoin Rising
“Ah Miguel, now for the exciting part!” gushed Alexandra, well gushed in her typically understated manner.
“Calm down” joked Miguel and they both snickered. “Let’s get back to something we discussed earlier. The Aliens qualified their thoughts with the fact that Gold has been around for over 5,000 years as a store of value and sometimes as a medium of exchange. This last part, the medium of exchange bit became inconvenient because of the impractical nature of Gold for that purpose. In fact, they feel that Fiat emerged largely because of this fact. Five thousand years against fifteen years, they feel that these numbers speak for themselves. Also that the stringent preclusions brought on by Chokepoint 1.0 and 2.0 could easily have relegated Bitcoin to the annals of history, but they did not. As with Landrace seeds, Bitcoin stood the test of time. They also noted the moves underway to make Bitcoin ever more usable as a medium of exchange. Block announced on May 27, 2025 at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas that it would begin integrating Bitcoin payments into Square’s POS systems, using the Lightning Network for fast, low-cost transactions. That bloody Las Vegas conference,” grimaced Miguel in mock disgust.
“Yes Miguel, I have thought about our disdain for that event and mused on my negative feelings. They were biased in ways and yet we exist in such a cloistered world with our seeds and our spores and the soils. Las Vegas looks like decadence on steroids to us, here.” Alexandra posited; thoughtfully.
“One thing we can be assured of is change, Alexandra, so it is good to stay open-hearted and open-minded. The Aliens definitively chose Bitcoin for the $1,000,000.00 investment and then went one step further, they suggested that some of this be invested into our Bitseed projects. And as well informed as they are they quoted another powerful maxim of our age [If You Eat You’re In].”
Returning to the Sunflowers
“Great Miguel and this whole post has been like a Russian Doll, layers within layers of imaginations and musings. Oh look at those Sunflowers again they are now glowing organically orange, let’s walk over and greet our children visitors.”
